[You know what, by far not the weirdest sort of thing that's happened, and the voice on the end sounds vaguely amused.]

"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'll alert the young master that you're calling. While we wait for him, may I ask what sort of skills you have, or departments that you're interested in working with?

Playing out one of those "bodyguard falls in love with the dashing noble" movie scenarios has been a dream of mine.

[This is, in fact, probably not true, but he's grinning enough that it's clear he'll run with it if allowed the chance. At her consideration, he leans back and twines his fingers together to stretch them out in front of him.]

Wouldn't mind seeing that... Him and Kunimi are some of the best in the temple when it comes to that kind of thing.

...That wouldn't necessarily be a surprise...

[Either for nefarious purposes, or the workings of over-protective and proactive allies. Still, the only thing that can be done is to keep searching. For that, he gives a slight nod of his head to her.]

I agree to this roleplay only if there's at least one high speed car chase.

[As if there's time for frivolous fantasies with their current lifestyle, but maybe one day. No harm in joking around, though taking an expensive sports car out on town and going fast sure would be fun.]

If Unmi agrees and the office wants to place some bets, I'm game.

[Not that she's looking for a fight, but a friendly spar is a good way to keep her skills sharp.]

I'd fight Kunimi too, but I think our poor exemplar doesn't have the time for that. His physique is impressive and his vessel form is something else.

[Ginia smiles as she straightens up, flipping her hair off her shoulder.]

I'm the one who spent the day relaxing in Hawaii. I've had my break and I'm ready to get back to work.

[It was a much needed reset. And she can only imagine what kind of vacation everyone else in the temple needs.]

I should get back to the office. The next time we talk, maybe it'll be something less serious.

I mean, we can certainly guarantee you getting a good enough car to trash won't be a problem.

[Or not trash. Whatever happens. It's their action movie RPF story, they can live it out however they want.]

[A snort pops out of him as he leans back in his seat.]

The office always wants to place bets, so that wouldn't be hard. Just gotta find the time for literally any of us. I will warn you that I don't think there's a physical activity Kunimi can't do.

[Ginia's hands freeze as her eyebrows raise. She bites down on her bottom lip, barely hiding the smirk forming as she stares at him.]

Kimi, did you once ask our fine exemplar to pin you?

[He bats his eyes.]

It was sparring.

[So yes.]

But we are pretty sure he knows everything. Ebisu has always consistently liked him for that, although he'll start cheating if we're not careful.

[Note to self: ask around the office for video or photos of the spar.]

Cheating...? [Ginia looks briefly confused before she snaps.] Using Kunimi's vessel form for mundane tasks, right.

[She can't really blame Ebisu given his clumsiness, but he'll never learn to do things on his own otherwise. It's not fair to overwork Kunimi either. Ginia is about to ask about some stories she's heard when her phone begins buzzing with notifications. Right. Work always calls.]

I should get back to my desk. Have time for dinner later?

[ This is not Little Mister Ebisus voice. It could have been, but Obi is pretty sure that phones don't alter voices that much. Well, whatever the case, that doesn't really matter!

"Meet" is so weird to say when they aren't meeting face to face though. Perhaps they have met around the Little Mister though? ]

Likewise, Mister! I know a bit about agriculture and fishing, and I know about hunting and farming, you know, in practice more than just on paper. I am also pretty fast at learning things, that could count for a skill, right?

It's not so bad when he's a kid, but boy, does that habit stay.

[It doesn't help that a few of their coworkers are the types that would stick to helping him that way if they could, with Takami being the worst at it currently, but oh well. At the phone buzzing, Kimi gives an exaggerated sigh.]

Ah, and here I was hoping I could get more of an excuse for prolonging my break. But you'll definitely see me, I just have to tie some things up. A lot of things, really, but what else is new.

[Such is their life in the afterlife. It's tempting to put things off a little longer, but Ginia knows how much work is waiting for her. Spreading the word on the healing spell within the temple, looking over the video prepared for the network, tackling all of her other paperwork, there's a lot.

That doesn't mean Ginia can't steal a few more seconds. She closes her laptop and pockets her phone before leaning in to catch Kimi's mouth in a lingering kiss.]

"Having an inclination to learn is always a valuable skill."

[And frankly, they need all the help they can get over here. Beggars can't be choosers. As long as someone is a good and willing learner, that will hopefully make up for things.]

[After a moment, Ebisu's voice soon pings through the line.]

Hello! This is Ebisu speaking. It's Obi, isn't it? I've heard you have some interest in our agriculture and fishing departments.

[Might as well cut to the point, right?]

[That's certainly one way to prolong an impromptu break. A faint surprised noise leaves him, but he adjusts almost immediately to lean in as well. When they break apart, he's beaming as if freshly re-energized. Perhaps not surprising from the kind of guy who seems to thrive off of positive and physical attention.]

[Or sometimes just physical attention.]

You're making it really hard to get back to work.

[But to work he will go.]

[Kisses are easier now with the first one out of the way. There's a bit of a glow and cat-like twist of her mouth as Ginia pulls back and smiles fondly at him.]

We'll just have to deal. See you at dinner.

[Alas, back to work.]

I suppose that it is!

[ He replies to the other shinki, cheerfully.

And then there's Little Ebisu on the other side of the communication device. ]

Hello, Little Mister, that's right, that's me and I have some of that!

[ He is calling about business, after all, so why not cut right to it? ]

[It's quite nice to be able to cut to business so that they're both very clearly on the same page and not dancing around the issue.]

Is there a particular area which you would prefer? Our fishing and agriculture department could both use help, so, even if your knowledge is more theoretical in nature, either area would benefit greatly from your assistance.

It's pretty practical in either area, I would say! Does that work for you as well as theoretical?

Indeed, it would be perfectly fine. Then, if you don't mind, I would like to place you in the agricultural department. It will involve some traveling all over Japan, but my shrines and temples will all be available to you for this purpose, or any other if you like.

That sounds great, I like seeing places anyways. What is it that you want me to do while I go places?

It will be a variety of things that will honestly depend on our workload, such as the prayers we receive or things we have to check up on. Some people pray when they're struggling for finances on their farms, for example, or they need help with a harvest. There are also, of course, ayakashi problems, although we won't ask you to destroy them, as that would be unreasonable.

[Unless he was named by Ebisu, of course.]

We simply need you to weaken them, or chase them off, and give us a report on it.

So like helping out with tasks, or doing counting and see if it goes around well. It would be manageable to do with the ayakashi problem so long as I had a god with me, which I have no problem with.

[ He doesn't mind being named by other people than Mistress Celestia. ]

[Huh, that's certainly something, and Ebisu pauses as he considers Obi's words.]

Well, if you were to bring along a god of yours to take care of the problem, then I would like to know who they are, just so that I could pay you all fairly. Although, if I may be blunt, do your words indicate an interest in joining my temple as one of its shinki?

Bluntness is best in these situations, isn't it? I have an interest in it, yeah.

[ He's not sure what he'd do about Mistress Celestia.. They still have some mending to do, and all that, but they'd probably still keep her name for the time being even if Ebisu named him. But Ebisu isn't as stiff as the rest of the old gods from what he's gathered. ]

Well, I'm not concerned about that at all. My temple is mainly one of nora, you see.

[So the oddballs and weirdos do fit right in. It probably says a lot about Ebisu.]
